Estonica
Estonica was created to spread information about the Estonian society and culture in other countries and to further cultural and educational ties.
Overview
Commissioned by the Estonian Institute (a member of the European Union National Institutes for Culture — EUNIC), Estonica was created to spread information about the Estonian society and culture in other countries and to further cultural and educational links. The prime focus was on structuring the content skillfully so that it would be easy to find specific subjects and to read the site as a book (it contains chapters, articles, sections etc).
Design
Estonica is a website that should be clear and easy to understand for everyone. All our designs are usability-oriented but in Estonica’s case, we paid close attention to good usability and simplicity. We also employed a somewhat conservative look to make the site elegant for embassies across the world to use it as a source of information about Estonia.
Creative Commons content
Almost all content on the site is released under the Creative Commons licence and is open for everyone. Besides all the basic information about Estonia in text and in lots of pictures, the site contains several audio clips and video files. At the back end, everything is cut into small pieces to make it very easy to find content and even the smallest paragraphs are linked to other related content and media files.
